The Central Basketball Association is pleased to announce that the 2014 Coach of the Year has been awarded to Rodney English, head coach for the Chattanooga Rail Runners. English led Chattanooga to an 8-2 regular season record, the top seed in the post-season, along with the 2014 regular season conference title. Despite being eliminated in the semi-finals, the Rail Runners finished the 2014 season with a 4-2 record at home and 4-1 road record on the road, with an overall strength of schedule of .538 (second-toughest schedule in the league).
The first-year head coach further helped produce four all-stars from the Rail Runners club, including first-team all-star, Jonathan Adams (Old Dominion), and second-team all-star E'Jay Ward (Tennessee Wesleyan). He also helped recruit three players with international playing experience, Adams (Germany), Philip Jurick (Oklahoma State / Mexico), and Fred Sturdivant (University of Tennessee-Chattanooga / Canada).
Outside of the CBA, English has been adding to his coaching resume, as he was recently hired as the boys head coach for East Hamilton High School. Prior to that, he was the former men's assistant coach for NCAA Division-I, University of Tennessee-Chattanooga (2006-2008), and the former women's assistant coach for NCAA Division-I, East Tennessee State University (2003-2006). English was also a former player at East Tennessee State University (1990-1992), and played internationally in France, China, as well as with the Harlem Globetrotters. Through the earning of this Coach of the Year award, English will look to not only recruit a new class of players for the 2015 CBA season, but also look to build on the success and experience on the court this season to win Chattanooga's first championship title next season.
