Nearly three weeks removed from the 2014 Central Basketball Association title game, where the Middle Tennessee Storm came out victorious and hoisted their first championship trophy, a critical off-season has begun for CBA players, coaches, and each of the member teams.
During the summer months, many FIBA-based international organizations are actively seeking and recruiting players to make up their respective 2014-2015 rosters, including team general managers and agents communicating daily with CBA league officials and upper management to find the best quality player to fit their specific system. Some teams are looking for youth and athleticism, while others are looking for veteran leadership and experience. This is why the CBA is slowly becoming a hotbed for scouting talent, as nearly 70 players who played in the league this past season came from NCAA or NAIA Division-I programs, and over 25 players who participated in the league had previously played on the international level. With the league providing game film for its players from the past season, as well as detailed and accurate statistics, the CBA has also proven to be one of the most credible minor league basketball organizations in North America.
Furthermore, the CBA has had a history of developing legitimate player profiles, utilizing business connections, and helping its players achieve their dreams by obtaining opportunities to play overseas. Below are the list of players over the last ten months that have signed international contracts after playing for their respective CBA teams.
2013: Teeng Akol (Bowling Green Hornets) - Western Kentucky University - Luxembourg
2013: Jamal Crook (Bowling Green Hornets) - Western Kentucky University - Canada
2013: Alex Jackson (St. Louis Hawks) - University of Missouri at St. Louis - Canada
2013: Victor Moses (Bowling Green Hornets) - Georgetown College - England
2014: Kahlil McDonald (Bowling Green Hornets) - Western Kentucky University - Australia
2014: Leon Powell (St. Louis Hawks) - Southeast Missouri State - Mexico
As players enter these next few months, spending time working out with various clubs and agents, the league has fielded calls from nearly a dozen countries across the globe over the last month, inquiring about various players from the seven CBA member teams. It is just a matter of time that a handful of players, who played in this past 2014 CBA season, will be on a plane at the end of this summer, heading overseas for workouts with international clubs and subsequently getting ready for the start of the season with their new teammates overseas.
