On the eve of a landmark event for the Central Basketball Association, where they are scheduled to play an international all-star game this Friday with the North of the Border Basketball League, the CBA has one of its all-stars signing a new contract overseas.
Bowling Green Hornets' forward, Christian Siakam (IUPUI), has signed with the Kuala Lampur Dragons (Malaysia), and becomes the 9th player to have received an international contract after playing in the CBA.
The 6-foot-7 native of Cameroon, averaged 6.0 points per game and 7.5 rebounds per game for the Hornets in 2014. Prior to that, Siakam played three years overseas in Bahrain (2011-2013), where he averaged 23.0 points per game and 16.5 rebounds per game in his third and final year with the club.
Instead of playing near Toronto for the CBA in this Friday's All-Star game versus the NBBL, Siakam will be in Kuala Lampur playing his first game for the KL Dragons this weekend. His new team is part of the ASEAN Basketball League, which is a six-team league that comprises teams from five different countries: Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, Philippines, and Vietnam.
Siakam becomes the third player to sign a contract in this 2014 off-season and becomes the sixth player from the Bowling Green Hornets organization to sign overseas. Furthermore, Siakam is the first CBA player to sign a new contract in Asia, as the previous eight players signed in North America, Europe, and Australia.
