Although he was originally invited to play for BK Iskra Svit in Slovakia, Bowling Green Hornets 6-foot-10 center, A'Darius Pegues, has been offered a more lucrative contract and better competition with BK Saldus in Latvia. After posting an 18-point, 5 rebound, and 3-block performance in today's exhibition game for BK Saldus, Pegues was formally offered a contract to play for his new club in Latvia for the 2014-2015 season.
Pegues, who played for NCAA Division-I Western Kentucky University from 2006-2008 and graduated from Campbellsville University in 2014, averaged nearly 8.5 points per game, 5.0 rebounds per game, and nearly 1.5 blocks per game in his senior year with Campbellsville in 2013-2014. After signing with the Bowling Green Hornets in April of this year, Pegues put on a great performance in his debut versus Fort Wayne, registering a league-high four blocks in the game.
BK Saldus was promoted to the top division of the Latvian Basketball League (LBL) in 2014, after they won the Division-II championship in 2013. Although they finished 10th out of 12 teams in the first season in Division-I last year, where they posted a 12-25 record, team officials hope Pegues' signing will help produce them a winning season in 2014-2015. The team is based out of Saldus, Latvia, which is located in the western part of the country, approximately 25 miles north of the Latvia-Lithuania border. The regular season for the Latvian Basketball League is scheduled to begin in October and run through until the beginning of April, with the post-season lasting until the middle of May.
