Prior to the start of the 2016 CBA season, the Columbus Condors featured a three-headed monster: Anthony Hitchens (James Madison University), Brett McKnight (University of Akron), and Tihon Johnson (University of Idaho). The link between each of them? They all played professionally overseas in Germany.

During the course of the season, a fourth figure from the Columbus roster rose to stardom: 6-foot-8 forward, Trent Weaver, who had just completed his senior season earlier this year at Ohio Dominican University.

The 21-year-old finished the 2016 CBA campaign as a 1st-team CBA All-Star, averaging 19.1 points per game, 56.6% field goal percentage, and a league-leading 13.2 rebounds per game in 10 games with Columbus during the regular season and postseason.

After his dominating performance in the CBA this past season, Weaver became the fourth member of the Columbus roster with a Germany connection, as he signed today with FC Schalke of Germany's Pro-B Division. Weaver's Columbus teammate and 2016 CBA Most Valuable Player, Brett McKnight, played for FC Schalke during the 2011-2012 season.

With this signing, Weaver becomes the first player from the Columbus organization to earn a contract overseas after participating in the CBA season, while also becoming the 125th player in the league, since the end of the 2013 season, to have an opportunity to play overseas.
