MISSISSIPPI 80, MIDDLE TENNESSEE 72: (Nashville, Tenn.) - Engaging in a home-and-home weekend matchup, Mississippi took care of business in Memphis last night with a 84-78 victory over Middle Tennessee. This afternoon, they were aiming for the weekend sweep in Nashville, where they had lost by 20 points last year against Middle Tennessee, 111-91. The visitors put themselves in a deficit early, trailing by 10 points midway through the first quarter. But Mississippi chipped away and took their first lead right after halftime at 42-41, holding Middle Tennessee to just 13 points in the second period. After a back-and-forth third quarter, featuring multiple ties and lead changes, Mississippi used a 17-8 run in the final frame to put the game away against Middle Tennessee and complete the season sweep. With the victory, Mississippi (3-1) not only won its third consecutive contest for the first time in team history, but also held Middle Tennessee (1-2) to its lowest game total (72 points) in the team's five-year history. Mississippi had four players scoring in double digits with Jermell Abram and Jerry Hampton with 15 points each, while Middle Tennessee was led by Deangelo Williams with 13 points. Mississippi hosts Bowling Green next Saturday evening, while Middle Tennessee travels to Fort Wayne next Sunday afternoon for a championship game rematch from last year.
