Fourteen players have now reached contractual agreements with international clubs after playing in the Central Basketball Association, including the latest signing in Denmark by the Bowling Green Hornets' O'Karo Akamune.
The 6-foot-7 forward from Western Kentucky University in Bowling Green, Kentucky, Akamune averaged 10.4 points per game and 9.5 rebounds per game for the Hornets this past 2014 season in the league. His performance on the court led him to being selected as a 3rd-team CBA All-Star, and receiving multiple invitations to NBA D-League training camp workouts during the summer offseason.
During his senior-year at Western Kentucky, the Miami-native, averaged 4.1 points per game and 5.0 rebounds per game off the bench in eighteen games worth of action in 2013-2014.
Akamune will be immediately asked to help his new team, Horsholm 79ers, this week, in an attempt to turn around the club's 1-8 record to start the 2014-2015 season, which runs until the middle of March. The Horsholm basketball organization, based twenty miles north of Copenhagen, has been a stronghold in the local community since 1979; however, has never won a league championship title.
With this signing, Akamune becomes the eighth player in the Bowling Green Hornets organization to sign overseas after playing with the club, and fifth former Western Kentucky graduate, joining former Hilltoppers: Jamal Crook (Canada), Kahlil McDonald (Australia), Teeng Akol (Luxembourg), and A'Darius Pegues (Latvia).
